the cherry orchad

On Monday me and my group sat down and just read through the first scene in order to get used to the script and the language of it etc.

On Tuesday my group had a session with Sharon, where we went of into groups and then we wrote down things we know about the play so far.

So far I've found that in the play there is a big family and because of that this causes a lot of arguments and altercations, they also blame each other for things which shows that they don't really have individual responsibility.
  • The main themes of the play are:
  • money
  • love
  • drama
Characterisation within chekov is mainly about discussion on the rehearsal floor about who is saying that and why your saying that, and that is why it is essential to really understand your character which results in a good performance.

In the first scene my character lopahin was supposedly waiting to go and meet the rest of the family at the train station but he fell asleep,he was then woken up by the housemaid Dunyasha, Lopahin blames Dunyasha for not waking him up. This tells me that Lopahin doesn't like to admit his mistakes so he transfers it onto someone else. He then goes onto tell a story about his father who often abused him as a child and who was also a drunk, personally I believe that Lopahin says this as he feels like that is what has made him the man he is now as he claims his father was a peasant and not him, but after a shortwhile he realises that he is exactly like his father a 'peasant'.

Reasearch.
"Chekov was known to write about humor nature similar to shakespeare and the reason why Chekov will be done forever is because human nature will never change"-Zoƫ Wanamaker.
Characters in the cherry orchard don't relate to the social issues of their time or the financial changes in their lives.

Evaluation.
I think I developed a few skills I didn't have at the beginning of the unit, such as being able to understand my character well enough to know why they do and say certain things in order to make my performance more believable. I also understood how to properly communicate with the rest of my group in order to have a better understanding of what is actually going on, I also learnt how to work with people i don't normally socialise/work with, this helped me within the work space and out of the work space, this is also essential for myself in the future as it will be easier to work with others.
