Unit 11 draft

Does it matter what role you play whether your're not from that race/culture? First of all the performing arts world is very diverse and consists of different talent from All over the world, from America, to Asia, Africa and many other countries. However within the film industry Roles are often given to actors/actresses who fit the character criteria this is a very important part of the process, however one of the main points in the criteria are often race, culture, ethnicity or background.  Due to this some actors/actresses  are often restricted from being able to perform that certain role just because of their ethnicity or background even though they have everything else the director is looking for. Due to some of these restrictions certain ethnicities are often casted only for specific roles e.g people of colour are sometimes normally casted as the character who has a bad history or upbringing, Bruce nash who is an American tv producer who has spent years gather...

Unit 8 love and information context

In love and information each scene is simply given a title and no indication of a setting or place, Churchill leaves the context for the actors and directors to decide. An example of the contextless dialogue is below: FLASHBACK Breathe Ah ah ah Just breathe Ah ah I’ve got you, it’s all right Ah All right. Thank you. Sorry. I keep seeing... I can see... I can’t stop seeing... I wish I could stop it for you. Short of smacking in my skull. They say time, you may be able to forget, even if it’s a long time. Once it’s in there. Once you know that stuff.  This Dramatic Form gives the director or even the actors a large amount of freedom and is consistent with Churchill’s reputation for writing plays that challenge traditional playwriting styles.Kip Williams who help direct the play began with the rehearsals with no specific role to each actor. As a way of exploring the contextual possibilities of the scenes, Williams pulled names out of a hat to decide who ...

Macbeth

Context Blog Shakespeare was writing for the theatre during the times of Queen Elizabeth I and King James I. The plays he wrote around the time Queen Elizabeth contain themes of confidence, happiness and love such midsummer's night's dream  However, the plays he wrote during the reign of King James such as Macbeth were much more cynical and dark reflecting the insecurities of King James I. In the Shakespearen era Witches were associated with the dark and death and England was a Christian country. It was  said by many Christian countries to be agents of Satan and performing evil acts at night, a lot of woman during that time were accused of being witches or practicing the dark arts and were often burned alive as a punishment. Stanislavsky

When did Stanislavsky start working?- Stanislavsky  started acting at the age of 14, joining the family drama circle. He developed his theatrical skills gradually  over time, performing with other acting groups, he  then worked his way to become director of stage productions.  In 1897 he then became the co-founder of the Moscow Arts theatre along with  Vladimir Nemirovich-Danchenko Who was also a profound director act the time. What was occurring socially at the time?- Alexander III became ill with terminal kidney disease and then died and power was handed over to his son Nicholas II who then became the new Tsar. Why did Stanislavsky start the system?-Stanislavsky  believed that actors needed to produce realistic emotion while on stage and, to do so, they could use feelings they'd experienced in their own lives as a stepping block. Stanislavski also developed exercises that encouraged actors to explore character motivations, giving performances m...

the cherry orchad

On Monday me and my group sat down and just read through the first scene in order to get used to the script and the language of it etc. On Tuesday my group had a session with Sharon, where we went of into groups and then we wrote down things we know about the play so far. So far I've found that in the play there is a big family and because of that this causes a lot of arguments and altercations, they also blame each other for things which shows that they don't really have individual responsibility. The main themes of the play are: money love drama Characterisation within chekov is mainly about discussion on the rehearsal floor about who is saying that and why your saying that, and that is why it is essential to really understand your character which results in a good performance. In the first scene my character lopahin was supposedly waiting to go and meet the rest of the family at the train station but he fell asleep,he was then woken up by the housemaid Duny...
